5 tips to remain healthy and beautiful on a student budget | ISIC Australia

While we might be young as students, keeping up our morning beauty routine and healthy lifestyle can be tricky on a tight budget! Read on for our 5 top tips on looking a million bucks for a fraction of the cost!

Sick and tired of scouring through the internet researching Kim Kardashian's morning routines, and digging through seemingly endless spam about a new $15 miracle moisturiser that ultimately turned out to be rubbish? It's time to go back to basics and bring out the practical side in yourself.

1) Sign up to newsletters

We know, we know, your Gmail/Hotmail accounts probably already look like absolute chaos, however what difference is adding a few more brands to the not so exclusive list going to make? Businesses and big brands use newsletters to sell products and make money from you (however you probably didn't need me to to tell you that). It is you though who has the decision to open the email or not. They're going to have to grab your attention with a fantastic, unbeatable offer for you to even be remotely interested. Chances are if the subject line is good enough for you to open it, the offers inside are going to be worth investigating! Whether it the once a year 50% off cosmetics, or 40% off hair products, you might just surprise yourself with how savvy you can be.

2) Grab 10% off Priceline & Chemist Warehouse eGift Cards

How much do you honestly think you spend you spend on health and beauty each year? $100? $250? $500? You might be surprised when you actually think about it. Why not plan ahead and grab 10% off an eGift for the year ahead, which although a substantial investment up front, might just save you enough for a brunch out and a quality coffee by the end of the year. All ISIC, IYTC, and ITIC cardholders can enjoy 10% off eGift Cards for Priceline and Chemist Warehouse. Plan ahead, use some initiative! Get your ISIC card quickly and easily here.

3) Ask for free samples

Along with bargaining in Myer, David Jones, and other beauty stores, asking for free samples is something my Mother would more than comfortably do. Shopping for a new look at your local salon? Ask if they've got any freebies from their magic draw under the counter. You would be surprised by the amount of Argan Oils and John Frieda samples that are stashed away in there. It's also worth keeping one eye open on Chemist Warehouse's Free Samples page when you're shopping online. You never know what might just pop up for the princely cost of nothing.

4) Look out for health and beauty services that offer student prices

Our Frequent Values offers page has very recently had a lovely little facelift and with over 100 health & beauty offers nationwide, from holistic services to massages, and anything and everything else, you're well and truly spoiled for choice when it comes to pampering yourself. Another little secret of ours is to swing by your local TAFE for a bargain basement hair or beauty treatment. While the students there are currently learning, they are being extensively taught by industry professionals and this is a fantastic opportunity for them to display their skills at costs that are hard to ignore.

5) Look into health & beauty subscription boxes

Nothing is permanent these days, and it's no clearer than our obsession with everything month-by-month. We subscribe monthly to Netflix, Stan, Spotify, HelloFresh, Gyms, but what about health and beauty subscriptions? Why not try out a box of samples each month? You might just find your next favourite health food or beauty product? They start pretty cheaply! Just forgo a coffee each week and you probably won't notice any change to your hip pocket! Give GoodnessMe a look for health samples, and bellabox a look for beauty samples.

Australia's current obsession with everything healthy isn't just a quick fad. There's a good reason that we're all conscious of what we feed ourselves and our bodies. Looking and feeling our best certainly doesn't have to break the bank though. This is a great place to start!
